Programming with IDL
Interactive Data Language

Welcome to my web site about programming with IDL.
I use IDL extensively in my research and teaching and have written an introductory textbook to teach basic scientific programming using IDL.
IDL, from ITT Visual Information Solutions, is an interactive programming language with powerful data analysis and visualization capabilities. IDL is used in many scientific and engineering fields, including physics, astronomy, satellite imaging and remote sensing, atmospheric science and oceanography, chemical engineering, and medical imaging.
This web site provides information about my book, including downloadable files containing all of the programming examples in the book, as well as a variety of other IDL-related resources.
Students who purchase the book can obtain a license for the student version of IDL at a discounted price from ITTVIS.Book.htmlhttp://www.ittvis.com/idl/http://www.ittvis.com/Book.htmlDownloads.htmlResources.htmlhttp://www.ittvis.com/academic/idl_se.aspshapeimage_3_link_0shapeimage_3_link_1shapeimage_3_link_2shapeimage_3_link_3shapeimage_3_link_4shapeimage_3_link_5shapeimage_3_link_6
My name is Ken Bowman, and I am a professor in the Atmospheric Sciences Department at Texas A&M University. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in atmospheric science, including a course in IDL programming, and do research in climate dynamics, atmospheric dynamics, and satellite meteorology.http://www.met.tamu.edu/people/faculty/bowman.phphttp://www.met.tamu.edu/shapeimage_4_link_0shapeimage_4_link_1
If you use this book as a text for a course, please drop me a line and let me know.  I am collecting ideas and suggestions for a possible second edition.  Send comments and suggestions to me at k-bowman@tamu.edu.
